If you happen to be in Nairobi though then its worth shooting through Nairobi National Park, as this brief report from Bob Berghaier shows... In October I had an exceptional afternoon game drive through Nairobi National Park en-route to the Jomo Kenyatta Airport. We started at 1:30 PM - Coke's hartebeests, Maasi giraffes, serval (the 1st I've seen in this N.P.), Bohor's reedbuck, mountain reedbuck (the 1st I've seen in this N.P.), common zebras, eastern brindled wildebeests, Defassa waterbuck, Thomson gazelles, Grant's gazelles, impalas, common elands, wart hogs, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, 5 individual black rhinos - including two females with calves, 6 individual lions - 2 females with 4 cubs. The drive ended at 6:15 PM with slender mongoose running across the road in front of us just as we left the Park for a total of eighteen species. I highly recommend that any wildlife enthusiasts visit here. The bird life is great and mammal viewing extraordinary. In numerous game drives there I've never not seen black rhino and on about 2/3 of my visits I've seen lions. Other mammals I've seen here in past include bushbuck and bush hyrax. Hippos at one time were easily seen but I'm not sure if they are currently in the Park. Cheetahs & leopards are also seen on occasion, but not by me as of yet. If you have the time for a dawn to dusk game drive your sure to get 20 + mammals. If every capital city of the planet had such a great natural area on it's doorstep what a better world it would be.
